LESSON PLAN RULES: Coding in biology (rules by Romania)
Sujbect: Biology
Level- 5th -6th
Aim:
- - developing social skills, developing team work and collaboration ( online or offline),
- - extracting relevant information from a text, learning by doing.
Class organizing: online/ treasure hunt
Activity: Students receive information about a biologist, but not the name. They need to look for clues. The clues should be found in the form of QR codes, they can scan with their phones, and the clue will take them to the next place with the next information. The final message can be a quote from the biologist or a relevant information about some discovery of that person. The QR code can consist in an image too. / Alternatively, instead of a biologist, the treasure hunt can be about useful plants, endemic plants, birds from the school area. There will be at least 2 teams, with 2 different information to look for.
Evaluation: At the end, the teams work together to compile the whole information. Based on it, the teams will create a Kahoot game to include the information, so that the other team can play and learn about their results.
Follow up: Students should create a special code for their class and share “secret messages “ about the local flora to their colleagues. The colleagues should guess the plant the students asked about.
